01 · Information strategy
OIR, AIR, PIR and EIR define information needs. The BEP and Project Information Procedure (PIP) establish methods and responsibilities.

See how information strategy, model coordination and data analysis work together to support project delivery. This connected approach underpins our training.
OIR, AIR, PIR and EIR define information needs. The BEP and Project Information Procedure (PIP) establish methods and responsibilities.
Architecture, structure, MEP and specialist models come together through a federation strategy. TIDP and MIDP link delivery plans to design issues, clash detection, RFI and Reviewable Detail Design (RDD).
Change and programme control, technical submittals, material approvals, NCR, QA/QC, as-built and asset compliance feed structured data models and interactive dashboards.
Primavera P6 programme data ↔ MIDP → data visualisation
Map P6 activities and milestones to information deliverables using agreed identifiers. Analyse programme extracts alongside MIDP records through interactive dashboards to compare baseline, forecast and actual dates, identify missing or late deliverables and highlight gaps against project needs.
The CDE connects the workflow: work in progress, shared and published information, with review, authorisation, acceptance and an archive history. Validated project information supports asset operations through the PIM → AIM handover.
This is the approach you’ll learn to put into practice: organise project information, coordinate models and turn data into useful dashboards. In the Master Class, your final project brings these stages together into a coherent whole.
PRACTICAL LEARNING EXAMPLE
Start with the client’s information requirements and develop an approach to organising documents, models and project exchanges in line with the overall project programme.
An initial discussion explores your role, objectives, software experience and confidence working with data. Where useful, a short practical task helps check readiness. Together, we identify a suitable pathway and any preparation needed before confirming enrolment. Foundation develops introductory understanding; technical prerequisites are checked before entry to Advanced or the Master Class.
Guided exercises introduce the connections between models, documents and project information, including how to interpret basic indicators. Build understanding before progressing to more independent work.
Work on project data structures — such as MIDP, coordination or RFI records — and use them to develop interactive dashboards. The deliverables covered depend on the agreed topics and available data.
Develop a final project with scope agreed with the trainer: a data model, dashboard and evidence-based assessment of project status. Structured feedback on your deliverables helps consolidate your learning.
Learning objectives and practical outputs are clarified before training begins, taking account of your starting level and selected pathway.
Discuss your experience and learning goals ↗Identify the client’s information requirements and the deliverables needed to meet them.
Set out the methods, roles and processes the team will use to meet those requirements.
Establish model breakdowns, disciplines, interfaces and responsibilities.
Identify clashes between disciplines and record technical queries. Assign each issue to an owner, track deadlines, responses and corrective actions, then verify resolution and retain a record of decisions. Link issues to RFIs when a formal request is needed.
Understand the role of the Master Information Delivery Plan: bring document and model deliverables together and align them with project milestones.
Record each deliverable’s owner, dates and status. Map MIDP deliverable identifiers to Primavera P6 activities and milestones to align information delivery with project needs.
Build a data model covering questions, response owners, deadlines, statuses and history to support monitoring and traceability.
Bring P6 programme extracts together with MIDP, coordination and RFI data models through interactive dashboards. Compare baseline, forecast and actual dates, identify missing, late or at-risk deliverables and use gap analysis to prioritise action.
| Project data | What the dashboard reveals |
|---|---|
| MIDP · Documents, models, owners and dates | What was due, what has been delivered and what is overdue. |
| Coordination · Clashes and technical queries | Open issues, how long they have remained open and priority corrections. |
| RFIs · Requests, deadlines and responses | Outstanding responses and matters requiring action. |
| Primavera P6 ↔ MIDP · Activities, milestones and deliverables | Through interactive dashboards: baseline, forecast and actual dates, missing or late deliverables, delivery gaps and deadlines at risk. |
| Quantities and costs · Model extraction and a 5D approach | Quantity breakdowns, estimates and cost variations. |
| Design reviews · Comments, decisions and approvals | Outstanding contributions, response times and actions awaiting close-out. |
| QA/QC and NCRs · Inspections and non-conformances | Quality issues and progress on corrective actions. |
| Defects and snagging · Defects and outstanding items | Items requiring rectification, responsible parties and verified close-out. |
| Commissioning · Tests and supporting records | Test readiness, results and unresolved blockers. |
| Asset data · Equipment information and model compliance | Missing information and readiness for operation and maintenance. |
Examples depend on the learning pathway, selected project and available data. Commissioning is offered by specific request.
Connect project records to see progress, pending decisions, cost variances and quality issues in context. Apply the BIMXcellence Eco system to bring information from different delivery functions into a coordinated management view.
Map Primavera P6 programme extracts to MIDP deliverables. Use data visualisation to assess milestones, baseline, forecast and actual dates, delays and gaps between information availability and project needs.
Track design deliverables, reviews, RFIs and approvals to identify decisions that affect the next stage of delivery.
Link technical submittals, material approvals and required-by dates to the programme to highlight outstanding approvals.
Structure model quantities and available cost data to compare baselines, changes and variances through a 5D approach.
Bring together inspections, NCRs, defects and snagging items with owners, deadlines and close-out evidence.
Track design, programme and cost changes, their status, decisions and impacts recorded by the responsible teams.
Establish the B3D matrix to assign production, review and approval responsibilities by discipline and deliverable type. Identify who needs to be consulted or informed and connect those roles to document workflows.
Structure virtual containers and distribution rules to automate notifications when a document revision or status changes. Address all project stakeholders through the B3D matrix, access permissions and information needs, with traceability of notifications and required actions. Implementation is tailored to the CDE and available integrations.
Through interactive dashboards: a connected view of progress, blockers and priority actions, with drill-down by work package, discipline and owner where the available data supports it.
Monitoring and analysis applications are tailored to the pathway, selected project and available data, with scope agreed with the trainer.
Develop data analyst skills for construction: connect information, build meaningful indicators and communicate project status visually. Interpret deviations to help the team decide what to do next.
Foundation: explore the link between BIM information and indicators. Advanced: structure data models and build interactive dashboards. Master Class: bring these skills together in a final project and present an evidence-based assessment.
