MODULE 1 · 12 HOURS
A guided introduction: understand the BIM workflow and explore the role of the tools through demonstrations and supported activities.
Designed for students, early-career professionals, technicians and coordinators who want a practical grounding in BIM.
You’ll need basic Windows and Excel skills and a willingness to learn. Advanced BIM software experience is not required.
• Understand how a model and its documentation are organised
• Identify the key stages of coordination and information sharing
• Explore how BIM information connects to data visualisation indicators through guided exercises
MODULES 2 & 3 · 42 HOURS OVER 10 NON-CONSECUTIVE DAYS
For participants with BIM foundations and practical Excel skills: develop information management methods, then turn project data into data insight.
For experienced BIM managers and coordinators, Information Managers and Digital Delivery Leads looking to strengthen their delivery approach.
You need a grounding in BIM, working knowledge of Excel, and the ability to navigate and work with models in Revit or Navisworks.
Useful background
Familiarity with a common data environment (CDE) and ISO 19650 principles is helpful.
Developed during the course
Power BI, Power Query and DAX are developed through the course; prior mastery is not required. Python is introduced where relevant to the selected exercises.
• Develop a project information strategy
• Manage information deliverables and review workflows
• Build interactive dashboards and use project data to justify an action plan
BIM extends beyond 3D. It also means managing the documents, models and information required by the project programme. Foundation introduces these connections; Advanced develops the data structures and dashboards used to track delivery and support decisions.
Analyse the EIR and develop a BEP that sets out responsibilities and delivery methods.
Define the model federation strategy and track clashes and technical issues.
Structure MIDP document and model deliverables with dates and owners, and track RFIs for traceability.
Connect project data to interactive dashboards to explain progress, outstanding actions and current project status.
These are Advanced learning activities. Foundation provides an introductory, guided overview.
Foundation introduces the key principles of BIM in 12 hours. Before moving on to Advanced, we review your Excel skills and ability to work with models; prior mastery of Power BI, Power Query or DAX is not required. Before an Advanced or Master Class enrolment is confirmed, we start with a discussion of your practical software skills and understanding of BIM processes. Depending on your current skills, preparatory exercises may be recommended before modules 2 and 3. Participants who already meet the entry requirements can join Advanced directly. For the Master Class, the same discussion helps plan your progression from module 1 to the final project.
Support during scheduled classes, followed by email exchanges. Course documents and required files are shared with participants through their member access.
The complete journey combines Foundation and Advanced, with a final project to bring the methods together. Explore the full offer and discuss your starting point before enrolling.
